To be fair, it works today in most cases.

You need something sending RA - probably a router, but can also be a
server.

Some way to get addresses to the hosts - either via stateless
autoconfiguration via the RA or via DHCPv6. Both work today, pretty much
perfectly.

Something answering DHCPv6 requests to get basic networking
configuration. This can be stateless DHCPv6 in the case of
autoconfigured or CGA, or it can be stateful if you are using DHCPv6
that way.


Now, if you mean *prefix* autoconfiguration, we're not there yet... :)
