I hadn't seen those numbers, thanks. I will go and hunt them down.

Last I heard the expectation from the RIRs was that LIRs should assign  
a /48 to people who need to number more than one subnet, which makes / 
56 seem like an annoying exception to the rule. I see that the ARIN  
policy manual has changed since then to specify /56es, however.  
APNIC's still says /48, as does LACNIC's and Afrinic's. I ran out of  
patience trying to find the v6 policy at RIPE.

I guess what I'm really in favour of is consistency.
