Except that with IPv6 over MPLS, you can't even do TTL-propagation - how
is an IPv4+MPLS router to respond to an IPv6 traceroute?

(Which is the way it's typically deployed today - "don't mess with this
IPv6 thingie in our core, just tunnel it via MPLS across the core").

You can't run a MPLS core without IPv4 - but you can very well run it 
without IPv6.
