I guess, the 'using it' factor is what you are missing? :)

Traceroutes work like a charm for proto-41, ayiya, openvpn, tinc,
everything else I can name....

(Unless you misconfigure stuff like MTU, or do ICMP
ratelimitting/filtering of course :)
