Indeed, and I've seen enough implementations resetting the interface
when changing MTU, resulting in session resets.

Envision your video streaming inside the LAN breaking up all the time
when you Internet DSL link is unstable.

Also you might break communication between statically configured systems
not listening to RAs (and thus assuming MTU=1500) with other devices
listening to the volatile MTU advertised by the CPE router. Suddenly
you can't print anymore because of MTU mismatches in your LAN. Fun!
