CMTS support of IPv6

Based on Comcast's publicized plans (http://www.comcast6.net/), Cisco and
Arris are ready. In fact, Comcast can't start one of its IPv6 trials with
Moto at this time.

Interesting.. thanks for sharing that. Today we run Cisco 7246VXR and
there's internal discussions around either adding more of them or moving to
Motorola. The question around IPv6 was raised but nobody pursued an answer
that I know of.

Speaking of, does anyone know if the 7246VXR properly supports IPv6?

Best regards,

Paul

Just got off the phone with the pre-sales tech support person for our CMTS
vendor, Motorola. He shared that "no one is asking for IPv6", "none of my
customers have asked about it", and plans are for full support in 2H 2011.
Also shared that we will likely see CPE (by that he means CM and CM gateway)
support via firmware upgrades. He says the market and therefore software
and hardware development focus has been on bandwidth -- more downstream and
upstream channel bonding.

There's some IPv6 support in the existing code base, but he wasn't able to
describe where it's lacking. I know it's missing some dynamic routing
protocol support, but I haven't yet identified any other feature gaps.

So anyone who has Motorola CMTS gear, I would encourage them to talk to
their sales person and encourage them to make it a greater priority.
